You may have seen that many designers are using environment friendly materials. Especially cardboard or, in other words corrugated fiberboard, has been used a lot in design starting from simple boxes and ending with lighting, furniture (chairs, tables shelves, etc.), even interior decoration.
So what exactly is cardboard? Corrugated fiberboard is a paper-based material consisting of a fluted corrugated sheet and one or two flat linerboards. It is typically used in the manufacture of corrugated boxes and shipping containers. The corrugated medium and linerboard are made of containerboard, a paper-like material usually over ten mils (0.010 inch, or 0.25 mm) thick. Paperboard and corrugated fiberboard are sometimes called cardboard, although cardboard might be any heavy paper-pulp based board.

Cardboard is sustainable, it is based on renewable or even recycled resources, environmentally friendly and when it is not wet or contaminated with food or oil, cardboard is recyclable. It is also naturally biodegradable. And it is a very cheap material. Designers with a low budget can create anything they want because this material is light but very strong. It can be cut, torn apart. It is important to have a sharp knife to cut it so that the lines are tidy and straight.

Here is my lighting that I made as my project in college using cardboard. I used only the wavy part of the cardboard and created tiny roses from it. It took me some time to create many, many tiny roses. After that those small parts were glued together creating a rectangular shape. The most beautiful thing about this lighting is that when it is turned on in a dark room, it creates small stars all over the room.
