Views are used as system to describe different design aspects of a product. A successfully chosen view is a crucial point to represent your product concept sketch in the best way. A wrong impression of a concept can be given by choosing an improper view. That is why there are many ways to show a product sketch.
This article will shortly introduce you with several views that you can use for product presentation. Here is just a brief information about multiple views. Later on I will be posting articles for each of the views and describe them in details.
Projections
Projections are views that describe the product in two dimensions. It is used for defining the proportions of the product.
Perspective
This view explain the shape of a product. Correct perspective is vital for a designer to be able to estimate the proportions of a sketched object. It is used as an idea generator and as a descriptor.
Netting
It is basically a sketch where are shown lines that describe the shape of a product. It is used for shape detailing and specification.
Time Line
This view shows two or more stages in the use of a product. Main point is to show functions and behavior of the product. It also can be used to form a scenario.
Star
Star basically is instructional drawings that describe the user interface of the product by using ‘if and then’ explanations. Shows instructions how to use a product.
Exploded
Reveal the relationship between separate interior and exterior parts. Show how parts of a product fit together. They also serve as pre-engineering sketches.
Ghosting
In ghosting, a transparent way of drawing is used to reveal what is beneath or behind. The object itself is kept recognized and also inner parts are visible.
Cut-away
A part of a product is literally cut away to reveal information that is hidden in normal use. This can be a helpful method to show sketched for those, who are poorly trained in reading technical drawings.
